Instructions for sauna use
The recommended time for sauna use is 30 minutes. If you are ill you may want to start with less time, but please discuss this with us first. The ideal temperature varies from 110-130 degrees. Most people will want to get in it when it is 120 degrees, although some will not sweat at that temperature and will want to start at a higher temperature, say 130 degrees. Repeated use of the sauna slowly restores skin elimination.
It is very important that you not have any scents on your person when you use the sauna. This includes scented lotions. We have patients who will be sick for days with exposure to even the mildest scents (yes, this is really true).
You must use the sauna naked, or nearly naked. It will not work through clothing. . There is a lock on the door and a ‘do not disturb’ sign, although we have a key to get in if you were to be in too long and we get worried about you. You will need to bring a towel or you can rent one of our organic towels for $5. They are laundered in very safe detergent. If you bring a towel I recommend both a bath towel and a hand towel. The bath towel should be placed on the bench and draped over the backrest to prevent any sweat from staining the wood. The backrest is adjustable.
Please do not wear shoes into the sauna. If you are concerned about sanitation we have disposable footies for you to wear.
This is a 2 person sauna, although it is a little tight for 2 large adults (you have to be good friends). There is a radio and CD player in it so you can bring a CD or use one of ours. Be sure to hydrate well before, during and after your sauna. You may bring your own bottled water, but we won’t have bottled water here. I recommend that you get a paper cup, drink a cup of water before you go in, take a cup in with you, and drink a cup when you come out. Only water in the sauna, please. No food or other drink.
Ideally we would have a shower, but we do not, so please go home and shower afterwards to wash off all the toxins you have just eliminated. Avoid using soap as it leaves a film and clogs the pores. Wash off the sweat with a skin brush or loofa by brushing all over, including the face and hair. It may be somewhat uncomfortable at first, but it will soon feel wonderful. Brushing enhances the cleansing effect.
